On the day Tōma Kamijō and Index see Academy City's space elevator, Endymion in the distance, they meet a Level 0 girl with an amazing singing voice, Arisa Meigo. As the three enjoy their time together after school, magic-user Stiyl Magnus suddenly attacks them. His target: Arisa. TL;DR Review

A Certain Magical Index: The Movie – The Miracle of Endymion (劇場版 とある魔術の禁書目録 エンデュミオンの奇蹟 Gekijōban Toaru Majutsu no Indekkusu: Endyumion no Kiseki) is a 2013 Japanese animated fantasy action film based on the A Certain Magical Index light novels by Kazuma Kamachi.

The animation is as gorgeous as can be, with the combat scenes incredibly satisfying.

The plot, however, is as by the number as can be, and overly convoluted. Introduce new cute idol character, check. Toma and Index randomly meet this idol, check. Idol just happens to be in the middle of some conflict, check. Bring in existing and new characters that start the fight with no explanation, refusing to explain or expand on why they attack in order to escalate the issue further, check. Toma intervenes in conflict and preaches his naive belief, check. Throw in some random slice-of-life to get us invested in the new character, including bath and nude scenes, check.

Toma is as preachy in the movie as in the anime. Every time I listen to his philosophical debate, it always comes off as some naive kid who imposes his own view over logic and as if he’s talking down to them.

I won’t spoil the plot, but it has me scratching my head even after two viewings. It didn’t make much sense why everyone fighting everyone else, other than to get those cool combat scenes into the movie. The combats are definitely the highlight of the movie if nothing else grabbed you.

I am glad Accelerator at least get a scene in the movie. He’s the only character in this series that had evolve and developed. Everyone else is just repeating the same routines since season one.

I recommend this anime to fans of action genre that don’t mind a little ecchi-ness. A Certain Magical Index contains graphic violence, nudity, tobacco consumption, and suggestive themes/dialogs. Intended for young adults.
