– Ajin: Demi-Human
The Ajin: Demi-Human Live Action movie is one of the better anime/manga adaptation.
The movie was heavily edited from the anime and manga to fit both seasons into a 109 minutes movie. If you have never seen the anime, the movie may feel a bit disjointed as some characters motivation didn’t quite translate well to the live action. Take Tosaki as an example, his fiance was only mentioned once in passing and was never shown. The movie is more enjoyable if you have seen the anime, as it will help fill in the gap of stuff that was edited out.
Small edit here and there chipped away our bonding to these characters. When a certain character dies, we don’t quite have the same emotional attachment as in the anime. A lot of side characters depths were stripped and some were completely edited out. Kei’s sister, on the other hand, was given a bigger role. I guess because she’s a cute girl.
The action combat is the highlight of the movie. Some fights were almost translated scene per scene from the anime, and done exceptionally well. The gun and black ghost fight scenes here gave me hope for other anime adaptation.
There were almost no over-acting in this movie, which I am glad. People talk normally and aren’t yelling out their emotion, as most Japanese live-action tend to do.
I highly recommend the Ajin: Demi-Human live action movie. I think the movie is appropriate as a TV-14 rating compares to the anime TV-MA rating. This movie contains graphic violence and some suggestive themes/dialogs. Intended for young adults.
