Aldnoah.Zero Season 1 (2014)
アルドノア・ゼロ (Arudonoa Zero)

Synopsis

In 1972, during the Apollo 17 mission, an ancient alien artifact named the “Hypergate” was discovered on the surface of the Moon, allowing for near-instantaneous travel to and from Mars and the colonisation of Mars. After settlers discover additional alien technology on Mars (dubbed “Aldnoah”), they one-sidedly declare independence from Earth to found the Vers Empire. Later, the Vers Empire declares war on Earth, and in 1999, a battle on the Moon’s surface causes the Hypergate to explode, shattering the Moon and scattering the remnants of the Moon into a debris belt around Earth. Cut off from Mars, the remnants of the Vers Imperial Army establishes several massive orbital space stations within the debris belt and a ceasefire was established. 15 years later, in 2014, an attack on the First Princess of Vers during a diplomatic mission to Earth causes the Empire and its 37 clans of Orbital Knights to launch a new attack on Earth, this time determined to conquer it once and for all.

TL;DR First Impression

Aldnoah.Zero (Japanese: アルドノア・ゼロ Hepburn: Arudonoa Zero), stylized as ΛLDNOΛH.ZERO, is a television and print series created by Olympus Knights and A-1 Pictures.

Some of the early dialogs were a bit weird. For example, a princess of an advanced civilization that’s colonized Mars asked why the sky is blue on Earth. You would think she would have learned about this from science.

The animation is a higher production than your typical TV series. The episode started out a slow at first, with lots of expositions along the way. However, it quickly ramped up to 11 at the end of the episode.

We are introduced to many characters in this episode as a herald to what to come is what I assumed. What will be the role of these actors? Normally, my first impression is restricted to the first episode but the show got me invested to see what happened next.

The opening theme song was “heavenly blue” performed by Kalafina, The ending theme song was “A/Z” performed by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:mizuki. The intro was very well done and got me pumped for the series. I would rate the intro with a 9/10 and the outro with a 6/10. Both the opening and closing themes are very catchy.

War had broken out but some of these students act rather relaxed about it as if it’s just another day. It is still unclear if there is a main protagonist or if this is an ensemble cast. Overall, I am impressed and will definitely watch the rest of the season.

Broken Blade Movie (2010) Review

The story is centered around a young man named Rygart Arrow, a resident of a world where people can use “magic”. This magic is the ability to control and empower quartz, doing many things from creating light to operating machinery to riding giant mecha called ‘Golems’. Rygart, however, is one of the few exceptions; as an “un-sorcerer”, he cannot utilize quartz, making many aspects of life difficult as well as being looked down upon by the rest of society. Despite this, in his youth, he managed to befriend Hodr and Sigyn, the future King and Queen of the Krisna Kingdom; and Zess, the younger brother of the Secretary of War of the Athens Commonwealth.

Years later, Rygart is reunited with Hodr and Sigyn where he learns the Athens Commonwealth has begun an invasion of Krisna. Rygart is also shocked to learn that Zess is leading one of the strike forces. While at the capital, Rygart discovers that he has the ability to pilot a recently discovered ancient Golem which cannot be piloted by magic users. Despite its ancient origins, the golem possesses capabilities and systems far more advanced than the current Golems and could be key to turning the tide of battle. While hesitant at first, Rygart soon gets involved in the war between Krisna and Athens, in an attempt to save Hodr, Sigyn, and Zess.

Macross Plus is a four-episode anime OVA and a theatrical movie.

The year is 2040 and the galaxy is flourishing with several colonies and advanced technology. AI is near perfection and the current top idol is the near-completed Virturoid Idol Sharon Apple. All that is missing are her actual feelings, which instead are supplied by Myung Fang Lone. Sharon’s debut concert is on planet Eden, where at the same time, fighter pilots Isamu Dyson and Guld Bowman battle over air superiority for the Supernova Project. Isamu, Guld and Myung were once childhood friends, but after an accident seven years ago, they went their own separate ways. With Myung back in the picture, the old disputes are once again awakened. And when an unstable and illegal AI technique is installed in Sharon, the situation is worsened.
