TL;DR Review

The animation is on par, or perhaps better than the TV episodes.

The OVA used a remixed version from the TV opening theme. “Red fraction IO drive mix” by MELL is just as catchy as the TV version, just slightly different. The two ending themes were rather forgettable. “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” by EDISON is a cover song with just the instrument track. The original song was a popular song from the American Civil War. The last song from episode 5 (eps 29) is another acapella song, “This moment ~prayer in the light~” by Minako “mooki” Obata.

The OVA series Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail give us more of what we love from the TV series, Roberta. Hey, you like battle maid right? Here are some more battle maids for you. More actions, more gores, and a better animation production.

Highly recommended for the Black Lagoon fans. The anime contains strong graphic violence, suggestive themes/dialogs, alcohol consumption, and foul languages. Intended for mature audiences.

Baccano! Season 1 Review

The series, often told from multiple points of view, is mostly set within a fictional United States during various time periods, most notably the Prohibition era. It focuses on various people, including alchemists, thieves, thugs, Mafiosi and Camorristi, who are unconnected to one another. After an immortality elixir is recreated in 1930 Manhattan, the characters begin to cross paths, setting off events that spiral further and further out of control.

"Hey, boss... Don't you remember? Well, you should! I'm already dead. You said it, remember? And by the way, my name is Rock now!"
"Ugh... Er. Well, feels like my head's still attached, my sunglasses aren't broken... Amen, hallelujah, and peanut butter."
"Justice. I can't think of another word more loved by the people. It does have a nice ring to it. However, without ever exercising your own strength, you seek the death of others at the hands of someone else. Well, the justice you refer to smells pretty rotten to me."
"Whether we live or die isn't a big issue. If you focus on being alive, you develop fear. Your eyes get clouded. But if you have no such feelings... you are capable of fighting right to the end of the world."
