TL;DR Review

Bleach: Memories of Nobody is the first animated film adaptation of the anime and manga series Bleach. This took place around episode 106 of the TV show but is its own story.

For a Bleach movie, you would think the animation production must be high. You’ll quickly notice many shortcuts is used. Zoomed out characters are none descript shapes. Shadings are minimal, similar to a computer cell shading.

The film’s ending theme music is “Sen no Yoru o Koete” (千の夜をこえて, lit.: “Crossing over a Thousand Nights”) by Aqua Timez.

This is not a stand-alone movie. Even if you are familiar with the Bleach TV show, the movie is still expositions heavy.

The new character, Senna, is unrelatable nor likable. A nonsensical girl that does random things. The first half of the movie was mainly boring aimless things that Senna and Ichigo do together, as a way to make us bond with the girl.

The story is also rather convoluted and essentially a revenge plot. I feel really jaded now watching these old shows I used to like, and see all the flaws I didn’t notice before. Every character drags out a fight and then finish it off with their signature move.

Even though Bleach has a plethora of characters, none of them really die. So it’s hard to have any sense of danger for them as you know they’ll eventually come out on top.

This movie is just a glorified filler episode. I would only recommend this movie to the most die-hard fan of the series. Bleach contains graphic violence and is intended for young adults.
