TL;DR Review

Blue Exorcist first movie, released at the end of 2012.

Blue Exorcist: The Movie is a beautiful anime. It is much more vibrant and colorful than the TV animation. I would say it reminded me of the Paprika movie’s style and vibrancy. The details put into the scale and beauty of the city is quite impressive.

The ending theme is “REVERSI” by UVERworld. It’s a good rock song, but not very memorable.

Though I do love this movie, it isn’t that great of a stand-alone movie. You need to be a fan of Blue Exorcist to appreciate it fully. A lot of the nuances and emotional impact are lost for a new viewer. For example, Rin’s father is all told from a flash-back. This doesn’t fully convey the bond Rin had for his father if you have not seen the first season of Blue Exorcist.

I recommend the Blue Exorcist movie to the fan of the series. This movie contains graphic violence and suggestive themes/dialogs. Intended for young adults.
