TL;DR Review

Grave of the Fireflies (火垂るの墓 Hotaru no Haka) is a 1988 Japanese animated war film based on the 1967 semi-autobiographical short story of the same name by Akiyuki Nosaka.

The animation is great, even in today standard. The colors are mostly muted to give it a more realistic feel, but in some parts, it can be quite vibrant.

The song Home Sweet Home was performed by coloratura soprano Amelita Galli-Curci.

The characters are extremely relatable, which is why their story is so heart-wrenching.

This movie hit you right in the gut starting out with the first scene. It shows you how brutal this world is and set us up for a tragic tale. This anime is considered one of the saddest anime ever, so have your tissues ready.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone with a heart. Grave of the Fireflies contains graphic violence and mature themes/dialogs. Intended for everyone, but parental guidance is advised.

Erased Season 1 Review

The story follows Satoru Fujinuma, a young man who somehow possesses an ability known as “Revival” which sends him back in time moments before a life-threatening incident, allowing him to prevent it from happening again. When his mother is murdered by an unknown assailant in his own home, Satoru’s ability suddenly sends him back eighteen years prior to when he was still in elementary school, giving him the opportunity to prevent a kidnapping incident that took the lives of three of his childhood friends, two classmates and one young girl studying at a different school nearby.

Kirito displays his amazing skills although he is only a newcomer to the game. Later, Kirito finds out that the mysterious deaths are linked to a red guild named Laughing Coffin in SAO.
