TL;DR First Impression

Haikyu!! (ハイキュー!! Haikyū!!, from the kanji 排球 lit. “volleyball”) is a Japanese shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate.

Great art style and animation. The Character’s design is great, both visually and personality-wise. Despite having a large ensemble cast, most of the characters are likable, relatable, quirky, and memorable.

The opening theme song is “Imagination” by Spyair, while the ending theme song is “Tenchi Gaeshi” by Nico Touches the Walls.

We first meet our two main leads, Hinata Shouyou and Kageyama Tobio. Right away, we instantly empathize with Hinata as we see he is hard-working, talented, and determined despite having very little in training for volleyball. On the opposite end, we are also introduced to Kageyama, a prodigy that feels frustrated that no one in his team is living up to his standard.

These two obviously clashed right away and would make great rivals. However, they end up in the same volleyball team in high school. Though their personality clashed, they both may compliment each other and be one of the best combinations for their team?

I got emotional just from the first episode. Right away I can tell the love and care are placed in this series and I am looking forward to reviewing the series.

The words “big” and “heavy” are the rules to this sport, which does not fit this newbie any inch, but this guy goes and does what…!? Ushio and the small sumo club climbs its way to the top! The goal is Hinoshita Kaisan, a title for the highest rank in professional sumo, the equivalent of Yokozuna.

Giant Killing Season 1 (2010) Review

East Tokyo United, ETU, has been struggling in Japan’s top football league for a few years. It has taken everything they have just to avoid relegation. To make matters even worse, the fans are starting to abandon the team. In an effort to improve their performance, ETU has hired a new coach, the slightly eccentric Tatsumi Takeshi. Tatsumi, who was considered a great football player when he was younger, abandoned the team years before but has proven himself as the manager of one of England’s lower division amateur teams. The task won’t be easy, the teams East Tokyo United is pitted against have bigger budgets and better players. However, Tatsumi is an expert at Giant Killing. ETU home stadium in this manga was modeled on Hitachi Kashiwa Soccer Stadium, while the team appears to have been inspired by Tokyo Verdy, which has faced a similar trajectory in the J. League.
