Synopsis

The Monogatari series revolves around Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who is almost human again after briefly becoming a vampire. One day, a classmate of his, the reclusive Hitagi Senjōgahara, falls down the stairs into Koyomi's arms. He discovers that Hitagi weighs nothing, in defiance of physics. Despite being threatened by her to keep away, Koyomi offers his help and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a strange middle-aged man living in an abandoned building, who cured him of being a vampire. Once Koyomi helps solve Hitagi's problem, she decides to become his friend.

TL;DR Review

Monogatari is one of those show that is confusing inside the anime and outside. Take, for example, their series naming scheme. Within the first season, you have Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, and Nekomonogatari (Black). Then in season two, you have Nekomonogatari (White), Kabukimonogatari, Otorimonogatari, Onimonogatari, Koimonogatari, Hanamonogatari, and Summaries. Let not even go into the third season sub arc name. It can be quite confusing trying to figure out the order of the show.

Monogatari is a fast pace dialog driven series. You may have several characters talking at once with overlapping jokes. This is definitely one of those show you need to hit that pause button in order to soak in everything. Despite all these confusing aspects, I highly recommend this show if you like comedy with a touch of fantasy (vampire and other world beings). You need to be prepared and in the mindset of lots and lots of reading. This show will drain you mentally so maybe not the best show to watch at the end of a long day, or for binge watching.
