Synopsis

There once was a pirate known as the Great Gold Pirate Woonan, who obtained almost one-third of the world’s gold. Over the course of a few years, the pirate’s existence faded, and a legend grew that he disappeared with his gold to a remote island, an island pirates continue to search for. Aboard the Going Merry, Luffy and his crew, starved and reckless, are robbed of their treasure. In an attempt to get it back, they wreck the getaway ship, guided by a young boy named Tobio, who’s a captured part of El Drago’s pirate crew. El Drago’s love for gold has driven him to look for Woonan’s island, and thanks to Woonan’s treasure map, he finds it. During this time, Luffy’s crew have been split up, and despite their own circumstances, they must find a way to stop El Drago from obtaining Woonan’s gold.

Overview

The first three films were originally shown as back-to-back presentations alongside other Toei film productions and thus have a running time below feature length (around 45–60 minutes each). One Piece: The Movie is the first animated feature film of the franchise. It premiered in Japan on March 4, 2000. The film was shown in a double bill with Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!.

TL;DR Review

One Piece movies are technically one extended filler episode. The first movie timeline is somewhere near the early first season when the only Straw Hats crew is Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp. I would put this somewhere between episode 18-20. Typical of most One Piece arc go, you have the Straw Hats crew ran into some villain and due to some unforeseen reason, they are incapacitated or split up. They’ll later learn the backstory of the local, and later a final fight scene where Luffy get serious to save or defend a friend.

Since this movie is only 51 minutes long, it’s like watching a 2 episode arc. The animation is on par to slightly better than the TV version back in 2000. Overall, I do enjoy the movie, but it is a little dated if you watch it now. It isn’t very good as a stand-alone movie or if you have never seen One Piece. The Movie is only recommended for One Piece fan.

One Piece contains strong graphic violence and moderate suggestive themes/dialogs.

The story revolves around Mahiro Fuwa, a teenage high school student whose older step-sister-(who was also the longtime girlfriend of his childhood friend Yoshino Takigawa) was mysteriously murdered along with their parents one year before. Upon learning of his friend’s intentions, Yoshino joins him on his quest to stand up against the rest of the Kusaribe clan who intends to awaken the “Tree of Exodus” whose power can bring ruin to the entire world.

Demon City Shinjuku (1988) OVA Review

Kyoya’s father was a great warrior, killed at the hands of the diabolical psychic, Rebi Ra, who has now opened a portal to hell in the city of Shinjuku. It falls to Kyoya to finish what his father started and battle his way through demons while protecting a young woman from harm. The only problem is that he’s not exactly your classic hero type, and his powers are still latent.

Blue Exorcist (2012) Movie Review

The atmosphere in True Cross Academy is lively and boisterous in the days leading up to the grand festival held only once every 11 years. During this time, Okumura Rin is entrusted with the responsibility of suppressing a berserk Phantom Train. In the aftermath of his failed mission, he meets a devil whose appearance is that of a young boy with a mysterious connection to the ongoing festival.
