One Piece Movie (2005): Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island
オマツリ男爵と秘密の島 (Omatsuri Danshaku to Himitsu no Shima)
The sixth movie for One Piece, Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island, takes on a different tone, and a few mix genres like Horror and Mystery. This is a bit out of the ordinary for the One Piece series. The early part of the movie is very bright and vibrant both in art style and in tone, but the later part took on a darker tone.
This movie also used a different art style, almost like cell shading where the colors are very flat. It feels like the entire movie was generated by a computer. I don’t hate it, but I don’t think everyone particularly like this style. Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island delves into a deeper issue like nakama (One Piece use this term almost like friend and family) and what would you do when you’ve lost all of them.
I do like this movie, though sometimes the art style just brings you right out of the action. I would recommend Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island to One Piece fan, and even to the viewer who is not familiar with it, are there even any of those around?
