TL;DR Review

I love the early seasons of One Piece when it was introducing us to the main Straw Hat crews.

The animation is ok for the time and an HD remake of this season was later released. The HD version is still considered sub-par compared to the anime of today. Women character design tend to be over-sexualized where they have no waste-line and giant boobs.

The stand out themes from the first season is “Believe” by Folder5, “Memories” and “Run! Run! Run!” both by Maki Otsuki.

This was a good start for the series, however, we are already starting to see the bane of anime, filler episodes. These are considered filler episodes in this season, and can likely be skipped. Episodes 50-51 and episodes 54-61.

In this season, we are introduced to Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji. They are all likable characters with their own goal for joining up with Luffy. I think Usopp may be my least favorite characters, as his flaws overpower his positives.

I highly recommend this season for consumption, minus the fillers. One Piece contains moderate graphic violence and suggestive themes/dialogs. Intended for young adults.

Spriggan (1998) Movie Review

Spriggan was initially released as Striker in the North American English translation, as it is the English translation of the word “Spriggan” from Cornish.

Many years ago, an ancient civilization known for their advanced technology once ruled Earth, but were destroyed in the end by their misuse. So, they left messages for later generations in the form of indestructible message plates written in ancient Hebrew, informing them that if they could not find a good use for their creations, they should be destroyed. Various paramilitaries, national armies, and armed private forces began to secretly search for these “mysterious artifacts” in order to be used for their own good and against their enemies. The ARCAM Corporation and their military arm, the ARCAM Private Army, can stop these forces from destroying themselves with their elite secret agents known as Spriggans (or Strikers). The film in an adaptation of the Noah’s Ark story.

Monkey D.Luffy

Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course, it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!"
Eiichiro Oda
"Whether we wound or are wounded, the blood that flows is red.”
Zoro
"If I were to take even one step back right now, I get the feeling that I'd never be able to return back to where I'm standing right now.”
