The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky
劇場版 七つの大罪 天空の囚われ人 (Nanatsu no Taizai: Tenkū no Torawarebito)

Synopsis

The Seven Deadly Sins travel to a remote land in search of the phantom ingredient "sky fish." Meliodas and Hawk end up at a "Sky Palace" that exists above the clouds, where all the residents have wings. Meliodas is mistaken for a boy who committed a crime and is thrown in prison. Meanwhile, the residents are preparing a ceremony for defense against a ferocious beast that awakens once every 3,000 years. But the Six Knights of Black, a Demon Clan army, arrives and removes the seal on the beast in order to threaten the lives of the residents of Sky Palace. Meliodas and his allies meet the Six Knights of Black in battle.

TL;DR Review

The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky (劇場版 七つの大罪 天空の囚われ人 Nanatsu no Taizai: Tenkū no Torawarebito) is a 2018 Japanese animated film based on The Seven Deadly Sins manga series written and illustrated by Nakaba Suzuki.

Typical of most shonen side movies, the story and new characters in the movie are irrelevant. You’ll never see these characters again. I couldn’t describe any character other than the one that happen to look like Meliodas. The plot is our protagonist happen to cross a portal to a realm where he was mistaken for someone else, then happen to defeat an evil that was just due to escape right at that time, how overly convenient.

Despite the generic and uninteresting story, the movie did provides some excellent combat sequences and kept me entertained. We did get a hint of Hawk Mama origins, but will this be expanded on in the future remain to be seen.

This is a filler movie with some cool combat. If you enjoy The Seven Deadly Sins series so far, then you’ll like the movie as it gave off the same tones and themes of the series.

Recommended for the fans of the series. The Seven Deadly Sins Movie anime contains crude humor, moderate suggestive themes/dialogs, and graphic violence. Intended for young adults.
