Kochi is not a separate district on Events Around Me. The city and the towns around it, including Kakkanad, Fort Kochi, Aluva, Angamaly and Tripunithura, all fall inside Ernakulam district, and every event is filed under the district it takes place in. That is the first thing worth knowing if you search for "Kochi" and wonder why the results say Ernakulam.
This guide explains how to use that structure to find events in and around Kochi, which recurring annual events are worth keeping an eye out for, and what to check before you head out.
Start with the Ernakulam page
The events in Ernakulam page lists every upcoming event in the district, with the categories that currently have events and the venues hosting them. Two things on that page are more useful than scrolling the whole list:
- The category links. If you only want music, food or workshops, use the category chips on that page to narrow the district down.
- The venue links. Each venue has its own page with its upcoming events, so if you already know the hall or ground you want, start there. The venues directory lists them all.
If you are planning for the next few days, the weekend view for Ernakulam shows only what overlaps with the coming Saturday and Sunday. It is often short or empty, which just means nothing has been listed for those dates yet.
Which part of Kochi?
Events are filed by district, not by neighbourhood, so the venue name is how you tell where in the city something is happening. A few places worth knowing when you read a listing:
- Fort Kochi and Mattancherry are the old port and heritage area on the western side of the city. Two well-known annual events are tied to Fort Kochi: the Cochin Carnival around New Year, and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (below).
- Kakkanad is on the eastern side of the city and is known as its IT corridor. If you are looking for tech meetups and workshops, the Technology and Workshops categories are the place to start rather than the district page as a whole.
- Aluva, Angamaly, Tripunithura and Muvattupuzha are towns inside the same district. A listing at one of these is still in Ernakulam, but can be a long drive from the city centre.
Use the Directions link on any event page to see the real distance from where you are before you commit.
Annual events to watch for
Some events happen every year in or near Kochi. These are recurring events we know about in general. They are not a promise that a particular edition is listed here, and exact dates change each year, so always confirm with the organiser.
- Cochin Carnival. A New Year festival in Fort Kochi, held in the last days of December and ending on New Year's Eve.
- Kochi-Muziris Biennale. A contemporary art exhibition held every two years at venues around Fort Kochi and Ernakulam. Recent editions have run from December into March. The organisers announce dates for each edition.
If an event like this is not on the Ernakulam page yet, check again closer to the date. Events are added as they are submitted and reviewed.
What to check on an event page before you go
Event details come from the organiser or from the Events Around Me team, and plans change. Before travelling:
- Status. A banner at the top shows if an event has been cancelled, postponed or is still "coming soon".
- Date and time. Multi-day events show their full date range.
- Price and booking. The price is shown as listed. If there is a ticket or registration link, use it for the latest availability.
- Venue and map. Open the map or the directions link. Venues with similar names exist in different towns.
- Weather. The monsoon months, roughly June to September, are when outdoor events are most likely to be postponed or moved indoors.
You can use Add to Calendar on the event page to put the date in your own calendar, and the Report incorrect information link if something looks wrong.
Keep a quick routine
New listings are added all the time, so a quick look beats a one-time search. A simple routine: check the Ernakulam page at the start of the week, then the weekend view on Thursday or Friday. If you cannot find what you are looking for, try the Find Events search with the event name, venue or organiser.
If you run an event in Kochi and it is not listed, you can submit it.
