Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Events Around Me collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our platform to discover events near you.

By using this website, you agree to the practices described below.

📍 Location Usage

We may request access to your device location to show events happening near you.

✅ Your location is not saved in our database or linked to an account
✅ Used only in real-time to display nearby events

To turn your coordinates into a place name, our server sends them to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoding service. Typed location searches are sent to the same service. We do not pass your location to our advertising or analytics services.

You can disable location access anytime from your browser or device settings.

📦 Information We Collect

We do not collect personally identifiable information such as your name, phone number, or email address when you browse events. The only exception is the optional newsletter: if you subscribe, we collect the email address and choices described in the Newsletter section below.

We may collect limited non-personal data such as:

The newsletter is optional. We only email you if you subscribe and then confirm from the email we send you (double opt-in).

What we collect

Why: only to send you the event updates you asked for and to honour your choices, including your unsubscribe. We do not sell your email address or use it for anything else.

Email provider: newsletter emails are delivered by Brevo, a third-party email service. Your email address and your confirmation or unsubscribe status are processed by Brevo so it can deliver the newsletter and handle bounces, complaints and unsubscribes. Brevo may also record whether emails were delivered, opened or clicked, under its own privacy policy.

Unsubscribing: you can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter, or from the preferences page linked there. You can change your choices on that page too. No account or password is needed.

How long we keep it: while you are subscribed, we keep your details to run the newsletter. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address and the fact that you unsubscribed, so that we do not email you again by mistake; contact us if you would like it deleted. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after about 30 days.

Security: confirmation and preference links use random tokens that are stored only in hashed form, requests are limited to prevent abuse, and subscriber details are not shown publicly. No online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect this information.

Subscribing to the newsletter is separate from cookies and advertising on this site and does not change your choices about them.

We use cookies and similar technologies to improve your browsing experience, understand usage patterns, and enhance performance.

Cookies may be used for:

The site also uses your browser's local storage for features that work on your device, such as your light/dark theme preference and the events you save. Your theme preference and saved events stay in your browser and are not sent to us.

The one exception is the like button. The first time you like an event, your browser generates a random anonymous ID and keeps it in local storage. When you like an event, that ID and the event's ID are stored on our server so one browser can only like an event once and we can show the like count. The ID is not linked to your name, email, location or any account, and unliking removes the record. A short-lived session flag is also kept so the intro splash screen is shown once per visit.

You can block or delete cookies and clear local storage through your browser settings. Some features, and the ads you see, may change if you do.

📊 Analytics & Tag Management

We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are visited and which actions (such as sharing an event) are taken. We also use Cloudflare's web analytics service for aggregate traffic and performance measurements. Through Google Tag Manager we also use Microsoft Clarity, a usage-analytics tool that measures how pages are used (for example clicks, scrolling and page performance). These services may set cookies or use similar identifiers and receive your IP address and device information.

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage is switched off by default until you make a choice in the consent message shown by our advertising partner, where that message is available. You can change your choice later where the message offers that option, or by clearing this site's cookies in your browser.

📢 Advertising (Google AdSense)

We display advertisements through Google AdSense. Ads are chosen and placed by Google and are separate from event listings; we do not control which ads appear.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses and similar technologies to serve and measure ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Ads may be personalized or non-personalized, depending on your settings and where you are.

📨 Event Submissions

If you use the Submit an Event form, the details you enter, including your contact email or phone number, are sent by email to the Events Around Me team through a third-party form service (Web3Forms). We use your contact details only to follow up on that submission, and they are never shown in an event listing and never sent to our analytics or advertising services. The form does not create or publish an event automatically; every submission is reviewed by our team first.

🔗 Third-Party Services & Links

Our platform may contain links to third-party websites such as ticket booking platforms, event organizers, or social media pages.

Some pages embed content from other providers, such as Google Maps showing an event or venue location. When a page with an embed loads, that provider receives your IP address and browser details and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy.

We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these external websites.

🔐 Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect the platform and prevent unauthorized access, misuse, or data breaches. Our server and hosting may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, requested page and error details) and uses IP addresses for short-term rate limiting to protect forms and APIs from abuse.

👶 Children's Information

Events Around Me is a general-audience events guide and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13.
