ÀLA FILM COLLECTIVE presents Screening #04 featuring Bacurau (2019), a 132-minute Portuguese-language film from Brazil, directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles. The screening takes place at ÀLA Cultural Centre, Mulanthuruthy, on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
Set in the remote sertão of Northeast Brazil, Bacurau follows a small village that mysteriously disappears from the map after the death of its beloved matriarch. As mobile networks and the water supply fail and strange outsiders arrive, the villagers are forced to unite to defend their home. The film blends Western, science fiction and thriller elements in a political story exploring colonialism, memory and resistance.
Bacurau was an Official Selection at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize, and was also nominated for the Palme d'Or. The screening begins at 6:30 PM. For enquiries, contact 9495426570.
